Hello
My name is Juha Perttula. I am scientist and knife maker from Finland. I forged my first knife from a six inch iron nail when I was four years old, and two decades later, I earned a doctor's degree in metallurgy. Then my professor let me to study knife steels in his laboratory. I found that it was extremely difficult to outperform the cutting ability of quite simple carbon steels, especially when hardened to exceptional high hardness levels. So, I addicted to super hard carbon steels and sharp blades.
However, hard steel is often brittle, and now, I have studied twenty years how to make hard and tough steel. I have developed carburizing steels for engine gears, and high strength steels for bolts, but always bear in mind blade steels. My ultimate goal is to get finished my book in which I detailed explain about how to make superior hard and tough carbon steel blades. This topic still conceals many secrets.
I love woodworking, bushcraft, and fishing, which are my inspiration for knife design. My passion is serial production of hand made knives.
